Description : Perennial herb to 1.5 m tall; stems semi-erect to erect, glabrous to densely pubescent or densely pilose. Stipules 2−15 mm long, densely pubescent or densely pilose. Leaves 3-foliolate; petioles 1−12 mm long, glabrous to puberulent; rachis pubescent, 0.5−1.5 mm long. Leaflets lanceolate, elliptic, ovate or obovate, 5−45 by 2−20 mm, apex acute to cuspidate, base cuneate, margin sometimes sinuate, glabrous to pubescent or sometimes hispidulous on both surfaces. Inflorescences axillary or terminal, 1−1.5 cm long, with 2−40 flowers, clustered at apical part, pubescent, each flower without a rudimentary axis; outer bracts 1-foliolate, 10−22 mm long; inner 1-foliolate, 2.5−5.5 mm long, densely pilose; outer bracteole 2.5−5 mm long; inner bracteole 2−4.5 mm long. Flowers 4−8 mm long. Calyx 4−5 mm long; tube 3−5 mm long; lobes ca 0.5 mm long. Corolla yellow to orange with red slender striation; standard rounded or obovate, 4−8 by 3−5 mm, apex rounded to emarginate, base acuminate; wings oblong or obovate, claw 3−4 mm long; keel falcate, 3.5−5 mm long, apex acuminate. Stamens 8−10 mm long, glabrous. Ovary glabrous. Pods quadrate, 2−2.2 by 2−2.2 mm with 1 seed bearing segment, glabrous or minutely pubescent near the apex. Seeds pale brown or purple.
Thailand : Throughout the country.
Distribution : A pantropical species from S America (type), introduced all over the tropics.
Ecology : Along roadsides, waste-grounds, clearings.
Vernacular : Ya satailo (หญ้าสไตโล)(Khon Kaen).
CommonName : Brazilian lucern, Stylo.
