Description : Annual herb 15−60 cm tall; stems slender, glabrous. Stipules lanceolate, to 8 by 2−3 mm, apex mucronate, apiculate, glabrous. Leaves alternate, 6−10-foliolate; petioles 3−6 mm long, pubescent; rachis glabrous, 4−7 mm long. Leaflets oblong or lanceolate, 6−12 by 2−4 mm, apex obtuse to rounded, base oblique, margin entire or bristly-ciliate, upper surface glabrous, lower surface glabrous or with a few setae; petiolules ca 1 mm long. Inflorescences axillary, scorpioid cymes, usually clustered flowers, 4−5 cm long, glandular-setose; peduncle 1−2 mm long; bracts brown, lanceolate, 4−5 by 1−2 mm, apex acuminate, base rounded, margin ciliate, persistent; bracteoles lanceolate, 4−5 mm long, membranous. Flowers 10−12 mm long. Calyx 4−8 mm long, membranous with reticulate veins, dorsally with some scattered bulbous-based bristle-hairs, margin ciliate; tube ca 2 mm long; lobe ca 5 mm long. Corolla yellow or white; standard obovate, 8−11 by 5 mm, apex rounded to slightly emarginate, base acuminate; wings ovate, 8−10 by 3−4 mm; keel 9−11 by 3−4 mm, apex acuminate to beaked, inflexed. Stamens ca 10 mm long, glabrous. Ovary glabrous. Pods 2.5−3 mm in diam., with 6−8 seed bearing segments, densely papillate. Seeds not seen.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao, Doi Inthanon, Doi Suthep-Pui, Hot), Uttaradit (Nam Pat); SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Khao Kamphaen).


Distribution : India (type), Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, China, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines.


Ecology : Sunny grassy slope, on sandy soil in evergreen forests, 1,100−2,000 m alt.


Vernacular : Wan phak bia (ว่านผักเบี้ย)(Chiang mai); khai pu (ไข่ปู)(Loei).
