Description : Tree 15–40 m tall; young shoots, young leaves and inflorescences pubescent. Stipules linear, ca 5 by 1 mm long, very early caducous. Leaves 10–20 cm long; petioles 2–6 cm long; rachis 8–15 cm long, pubescent to puberulous. Leaflets 9–12, oblong to ovate-oblong, rarely obovate-oblong, terminal one oblong to obovate-oblong, 2.5–5 by 1–3 cm, apex rounded or more or less emarginate, base cuneate to rounded, puberulous on both surfaces; lateral veins 5–7 pairs, fine but distinct on both surfaces, tertiary veins and reticulation fine, rather obscure on upper surface; petiolules 2–4 mm long. Inflorescences in leaf axils, paniculate, 5–8 cm long; bracts and bracteoles small, very early caducous; pedicels ca 2.5 mm long. Calyx 4–5 mm long, puberulous. Corolla bluish; standard orbicular, emarginate, ca 5 mm in diam., claw ca 1.5 mm; wings ca 6 by 2.5 mm, claw ca 1.5 mm; keel ca 4 by 2 mm. Stamens 10, in 2 lateral bundles of 5+5. Ovary hairy; ovules 3–4. Pods oblong, 5–8 by 2–2.5 cm, glabrous, 1–2-seeded. Seeds reniform, ca 3.5 by 5 mm, reddish brown to dark brown.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai, Lampang; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi; CENTRAL: Saraburi.


Distribution : India (type), Myanmar, China, Laos, Vietnam.


Ecology : Mixed deciduous forests, near sea level to 800 m alt.


Vernacular : Ket dam (เก็ดดำ)(Chiang Mai), ket deang (เก็ดแดง)(Lampang), kam phi (กำพี้) kra phi (กระพี้) ka phi (ก๋าพี้, กะพี้)(Saraburi).
