Description : Large climber, usually with terete aerial roots. Stem somewhat flattened when mature, young branches glabrous, mature stems with spine-like cork; tendrils bifurcate. Stipules 2, scale-like with age. Leaves compound, palmately trifoliolate; petiole 6.5–11 cm long, glabrous, with slightly enlarged proximal pulvinus; leaflet blade coriaceous, broadly elliptic; terminal leaflet petiolule 1.5–2.5 cm long, glabrous, blade 10–13 by 5–7.5 cm, base cuneate, margin crenate with minute protruding vein tips, apex attenuate or acuminate, lateral leaflets petiolule 0.5–1 cm long, blade 8–12.5 by 5–6.5 cm, base asymmetrical, margin serrate, apex acuminate or attenuate, veins protruding, 1 main basal vein, 8–10 pairs of secondary veins, glabrous, veinlets conspicuous. Inflorescences corymbose cymes; male flowers pubescent; female flowers ca 2 mm long, pubescent, staminode ca 0.5 mm long, stigma-lobe terete. Fruit 0.6 by 0.7 cm. Distribution : Throughout Malesia (Java – type).


Ecology : In evergreen forests by stream, 790 m alt.


Notes: This species is one of the hosts of Rhizanthes infanticida Bänziger & Hansen, R. deceptor Bänziger & Hansen (Bänziger and Hansen, 2000), and R. lowii (Beccari) Harms (Rafflesiaceae)(Bänziger et al., 2007).
