Description : Shrub or treelet up to 3 m tall; stem green, erect, branched, glabrous, scattered gland dotted. Leaves palmately, shallowly or deeply 3–5(–7)-lobed, lobes lanceolate, 5-7 cm long, base shallowly cordate, apex acute, between lobes usually with an acute or rounded tooth, margin entire, glabrous, upper surface gland-dotted, lower surface glabrous or scattered stellate hairy; 3–5(–7) nerves from base, with a gland on midnerve beneath, sometimes with a gland each on adjacent nerves beneath. Petiole 2–4(–10) cm long, gland dotted, glabrous. Stipules linear, 5–7 mm long, with minute stellate hairs, caducous. Flower axillary, solitary. Peduncle 1–2.5 cm long, apex with 3 glands alternating with epicalyx segments. Epicalyx lobes 3, base connate, lobes broad ovate, cordate, 2.2–2.5 by 1.8–2 cm, 3–5 sharp teeth on upper margin, lower margin entire, outer surface gland dotted, sparsely stellate hairy to glabrous, inner surface glabrous. Calyx cup-shaped, 5–6 mm long, ca 7 mm in diam., apex nearly truncate or 5-lobed. Corolla campanulate, 4–5 cm in diam., pale yellow with purplish centre. Petals broadly ovate, 3–5 by 2.5–3 cm, base narrow, apex rounded, margin entire, inner surface glabrous, outer surface pubescent towards base. Staminal column 1.5–2 cm long, glabrous, anthers throughout column; filaments ca 1 mm long; anthers ca 0.7 mm in diam. Ovary ovoid, trigonous, ca 4 mm long, 3-locular; style 1.6–2.1 cm long, exceeding the column; stigmas 3, linear, decurrent. Capsules ovoid 2.5–3.5 cm long, 2–2.5 cm in diam., apex long tapering, glabrous; 3(4 or 5)-locular; dehiscent, with reflexed valves. Seeds 5–8 in each locule, free, ovoid to subglobose, 5–8 mm in diam., densely covered with white hairs.

Distribution : Tropical and subtropical regions of the Old World, origin in India and Sri Lanka.
