Description : Shrubs or trees to 9 m tall, dbh 22 cm, girth 8 cm; thorns scattered, on lower part of internode, stout, conical, to 2 cm, additionally with dense red hairs and bristle-like hairs. Leaves: stipular sheath to 5.5 cm long, pubescent; petiole to 92 cm long, with coarse setose hairs near base and apex; blade chartaceous, to ca 90 cm across, with (6–)9–13 lobes, base truncate to shallowly cordate, the lobes 15–36 by 2.3–5 cm, narrowly lanceolate (to slightly ovate or obovate), more than 3 times as long as broad, apex acute-acuminate, base narrowed but not constricted, distinctly pubescent beneath, side veins in 9–12 pairs. Inflorescences 15–30 cm long, compact, with a terminal and 1 or 2 lateral peduncles, their subtending bracts to 3 cm long; densely covered with setose setose hairs and bristles to ca 1.5 cm long; umbels solitary on each peduncle, to 95 mm in diam., with ca 50 flowers, more or less sessile; floral bracts to 12 by 3 mm. Flowers: pedicel 30–45 mm long; calyx lobes 6 or 7, to 1.5 mm long; petals 6 or 7, 5 by 2.5 mm, free; stamens 6 or 7, the anthers 3.5 long, filament to 2 mm; ovary with 6 locules, stylopodium to 2.5 mm long. Fruits and seeds unknown.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Saket), Lamphun (Doi Khun Tan), Lampang (Chae Son), Tak (Doi Hua Mot – type: Garrett 779, holotype -K, isotypes -K L P); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Na Haeo).


Distribution : Endemic.


Ecology : Evergreen seasonal hardwood forests, along streams, over granite, 700–1,260 m alt. Flowering: April–June; fruiting: May–August.


Vernacular : Tang (ต้าง)(Chiang Mai); tang chep (ต้างเจ็บ).


Notes: The deeply incised leaves are very similar to those of Trevesia valida. Besides the shorter pubescence and different inflorescence, the latter has not more than 9 lobes.
