Description : Shrubs 3 m tall; branches with scattered, ca 4 mm long spines, pubescent (with short hair-like bristles). Leaves: stipules ca 10 mm long, adnate; petiole with scattered spines, length unknown (only seen in fragments): blade bi- to tri-pinnate, only seen in fragments (outside of Thailand more than 1 m long), rachis glabrous, with scattered spines of 2–3 mm (on nodes up to 7 mm long); leaflets in ca 4 pairs, petiolules 0–1 mm long, blades ovate to elliptic, 8–11 by 3.5–5 cm, membranous, base obtuse-rounded, margin distinctly double-serrate, apex acuminate, above with scattered hair-like bristles 0.5–1.5 mm long, beneath in particular so on the venation, venation distinct, side veins in ca 7 pairs. Inflorescences yellowish-green, compound, probably to ca 1 m long but only seen in fragments, distinctly pubescent throughout, the subtending bracts caducous, not seen; umbels 20–30 mm in diam., with 12–20 flowers, their bracts ca 3 mm long. Flowers yellowish green, pubescent; pedicel 7–9 mm long; petals ca 2.5 mm long. Fruits ca 4 by 4 mm, deeply sulcate.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep, Mae Rim), Uttaradit (Phu Soi Dao); SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Thong Pha Phum); PENINSULAR: Chumphon (Siap Yuan), Ranong (Ngao Falls); Nakhon Si Thammarat (Thung Song); Pattani (Khao Kalakiri).


Distribution : India, Bhutan, and Myanmar (type) through Indochina to China.


Ecology : In evergreen forests, bamboo forests, clearings, 50–700 m alt. Flowering and fruiting: March, July–October


Vernacular : Khan ham suea (คันหามเสือ)(Peninsular); tang nok (ต้างนก)(Chiang Mai).
