Description : Tree, 8–25 m tall. Indumentum shortly fine greyish tufted tomentose, sparsely on young twigs, buds, inflorescences and calyx lobes. Twigs glabrous or glabrescent, lenticellate, resinous. Buds ovoid, ca 3 mm. Stipules oblong, ca 3 by 1 mm. Leaves elliptic, oblong to obovate-oblong, 3–20 by 1.5–8 cm, coriaceous, glabrous; base cuneate, slightly asymmetrical; apex acute, retuse at tip; secondary nerves 6–10 on each side, obscurely arching, prominent on both surfaces; tertiary nerves loosely reticulate-scalariform; midrib slightly raised above; petioles stout, 0.5–1.5 cm long. Inflorescences irregularly branched, 5–7 cm long; branchlets bearing 2–3 flowers; flower buds lanceolate, 0.7–1.5 cm long; pedicels 3–5 mm. Calyx lobes subequal, ovate-oblong, acuminate, 2–2.5 by 1–1.3 mm, pubescent. Petals cream-yellow or white, lanceolate, slightly thickened, pubescent outside, glabrous inside, 1.2–1.5 by 0.2–0.25 mm. Stamens typical; filaments ca as long as anthers; anthers broadly oblong, ca 0.5 mm long; connective-appendages minute. Ovary shortly tomentose, ca 1 by 1.2 mm; style ca equal to ovary length; stigma typical. Fruiting calyx lobes slightly accrescent, equal, woody, connate, fused to the nut; lobes orbicular, ca 5 mm diam., base depressed; fruit pedicels 5–7 mm long. Nut ovoid, with 3 distinct longitudinal marks, pericarp thick, corky verrucose, 2–3 by 1.2–2 cm; style remnant apiculate.


Thailand : PENINSULAR: Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Songkhla, Satun, Narathiwat.


Distribution : S Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra (type).


Ecology : Evergreen and peat swamp forests, common along river bank, to 300 m alt. Flowering: February–December; fruiting: January–December.


Vernacular : Ku-mung (กูมุง)(Malay-Narathiwat); mai kluai (ไม้กล้วย)(Trang); rue-so (รือเสาะ)(Narathiwat); tu-lae (ตูแล)(Yawi-Narathiwat).
