Description : Tree to 40 m tall. Indumentum densely shortly fine tufted tomentose on buds. Twigs glabrous, white waxy with sparse red-brown lenticels. Buds ovoid, 1–3 by 0.3–1 cm. Stipules enlarged to ca 11 cm long, pale pink, pubescent to glabrescent. Leaves broadly elliptic to ovate, 9–30 by 5–14 cm, glabrous on both surfaces; base obtuse to cordate; apex abruptly acute to acute; margins slightly crenate in upper part; secondary nerves 10–18 on each side; midrib flattened or slightly depressed above; petioles 2–8 cm long. Inflorescences 6–25 cm long, unbranched, with 2–5 flowers; flower buds oblong, 4.5–7.5 by 1.3–1.5 cm; pedicels 2–4 mm long. Calyx tubes 1.2–1.5 by 1.2 cm, keeled, glabrous; 2 longer lobes 2.5–3.5 by 0.6–0.8 cm; 3 short lobes ca 0.5 by 1 cm. Petals 3–5 by 0.8–1.5 cm, shortly fine tomentose outside. Stamens 30; filaments ca 3 mm long; anthers 0.7–1 cm long; connective-appendages slightly shorter than anthers. Ovary 3–4 mm in diam.; style 1.3–1.5 cm long. Nut ellipsoid, 4–7 by 2.5–4 cm including calyx tube, glabrous; calyx tube winged, wings 1–1.5 cm wide, crenate; 2 longer lobes 14–20 by 3.3–5 cm; 3 smaller lobes 1.5– 2 by 1.5–2 cm, slightly revolute; fruit pedicels stout, to ca 2 mm long.


Thailand : NORTH-EASTERN: Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom; PENINSULAR: Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phangnga, Krabi, Phuket, Trang, Satun, Yala, Narathiwat.


Distribution : Andaman Islands, Myanmar, S Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo (Sabah), Sumatra, the Philippines (type).


Ecology : Evergreen forests, to 600 m alt. Flowering: January–April; fruiting: May–November.


Vernacular : Yang yung (ยางยูง), yung (ยูง)(Peninsular); yang man mu (ยางมันหมู)(Trang); yang hua waen (ยางหัวแหวน)(Nakhon Si Thammarat); yang sian (ยางเสียน)(Ranong).


Notes: This species has a disjunct distribution between peninsular and northeastern Thailand.
