Description : Tree to 50 m tall. Indumentum pilose and shortly tufted tomentose on young twigs, buds, petioles, midrib and lower surface of young leaves. Buds ovoid, 2–3 by 0.7–1.5 cm. Stipules enlarged to ca 15 cm long. Leaves elliptic to oblong, 13–45 by 8–20 cm, glabrous on both surfaces or sparsely pubescent on nerves below; base broadly cuneate to rounded, slightly cordate at very base; apex shortly acuminate to acuminate; margin undulate; secondary nerves 18–30 on each side, arching near the margin; midrib slightly sunken above; petioles 3–8 cm long. Inflorescences 10–20 cm long, pubescent, unbranched with 5–10 flowers or singly branched then branchlets usually bearing one flower; flower buds elongate, 3–5 cm long; pedicels stout, 1–5 mm long. Calyx tubes ca 1–1.5 by 0.7 cm, minutely fine tomentose; 2 longer lobes 1.5–2.5 by 0.3–0.4 cm; 3 short lobes 5–6 mm long. Petals 4–4.5 by 0.5–0.7 cm, partly short tomentose outside. Stamens ca 30; filaments ca 2 mm long; anthers 7–8 mm long; connective-appendages ca half as long as anthers. Ovary ca 3 mm in diam.; style ca 1 cm long. Nut ellipsoid, 4–6 by 2.5–3.5 cm including calyx tube; calyx tube 5-angled, slightly more prominent in upper half, glabrescent; 2 longer lobes 13–25 by 3.5–4 cm, constricted above the neck, 5–7 mm wide; 3 smaller lobes 1.5–2 by 0.5–0.8 cm, slightly revolute; fruit pedicels to ca 1 cm long.
Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Ratchaburi; SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi, Trat; PENINSULAR: Chumphon, Ranong, Surat Thani, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Satun, Narathiwat (Waeng).
Distribution : Lower Myanmar, Cambodia, S Vietnam (type), Upper Peninsular Malaysia.
Ecology : Lowland dipterocarp forests, to ca 400 m alt. Flowering: November–January; fruiting: December–August.
Vernacular : Yang klong (ยางกล่อง); yang man mu (ยางมันหมู)(Ranong); yang tai (ยางใต้)(Trat); i to (อีโต้)(Satun); yang yung (ยางยูง), yung (ยูง)(Peninsular); yung dam (ยูงดำ)(Chumporn, Krabi, Surat Thani); yung hiang (ยูงเหียง)(Surat Thani).
