Description : Tree to 40 m tall. Indumentum brilliant golden brown peltate scales, minute, dark red glands and shortly fine tufted tomentose hairs on young twigs, buds, lower surface of leaves, stipules, inflorescences, bracteoles and calyx. Stipules lanceolate, 3–7 mm long. Leaves elliptic, obovate, oblong to lanceolate, 5–15 by 2–7 cm; base broadly cuneate; apex shortly acuminate or abruptly acute; secondary nerves 12–25 on each side, distinctly forming an intramarginal loop, depressed above; intermediate nerves few; tertiary nerves subscalariform to subreticulate; midrib depressed above; petioles 1–2.5 cm long, pubescent. Inflorescences 3–10 cm long, irregularly branched; branchlets to 2 cm, bearing 2–5 flowers; bracteoles ca 1.5 mm long. Flower buds elongate, 3–7 by 1.5–2 mm; pedicels 0.5–2 mm long. Calyx lobes oblong, 1.5–2 by 1 mm, shortly tomentose. Petals ovate lanceolate, 4–7 by 1.5 mm, cream to pale yellow, pubescent outside. Stamens 25; filaments 1–1.5 mm long; anthers elliptic to oblong, 0.3–0.6 mm long; connective-appendages filiform, to ca 3 times as long as anthers. Ovary with stylopodium broadly cylindrical, densely tomentose; style deeply trifid with minute stigma. Fruiting calyx tube glabrescent; 2 longer lobes 7–14 by 1–2.2 cm; 3 smaller lobes 1–3 by 0.3–0.4 cm long; fruit pedicels 3–5 mm long. Nut 1–1.3 cm in diam., sparsely cracked, pubescent; stylopodium remnant apiculate.


Thailand : PENINSULAR: Satun, Yala, Narathiwat.


Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia (type), Sumatra.


Ecology : Evergreen forests, lowland to hillsides, to 850 m alt. Flowering: February–May; fruiting: March–December.


Vernacular : Krabak thong (กระบากทอง); pik daeng (ปีกแดง)(Satun).
