Description : Annual herb; stems erect, widely branched, rather thick, patently hispid. Leaves ovate-oblong or ovate-lanceolate, 2–8 by 0.5–3 cm, apex obtuse or rather acute, base broadly rounded or cordate, both surfaces hispid. Inflorescences solitary and terminal on long peduncles. Capitula 1.5–4 cm diam. at flowering; involucres cup-shaped, campanulate or cylindrical, ca 5 by 6 mm; phyllaries 3- or more seriate, obovate, rounded above; receptacle convex or flattened, paleaceous, paleae oblong-lanceolate, 6–7 mm by 1–3 mm, apex acute to cuspidate, entire, outside glabrous, yellow, persistent, exceeding disc florets. Ray florets ca 8 per capitulum, uniseriate; ray limbs oval or oblong, ca 10 by 4–5 mm, orange to yellow, apex rounded, emarginate or slightly 3-lobed, tube pubescent. Disc florets 30–50 per capitulum; corollas ca 5 mm long, orange, apex 5-lobed, lobes oblong-spathulate, densely velvety or pubescent within. Achenes: ray achenes obovate, ca 3 mm long, laterally compressed with prominent inner angle, setuliferous; pappus absent; disc achenes oblong, 2.5–4 mm long, laterally compressed, setuliferous; pappus 2 unequal awns, longer one ca 3 mm long, shorter one ca 0.5 mm long or absent, whitish.

Distribution : Native of Mexico (type).
Ecology : Introduced.
Vernacular : Kradum ngoen (กระดุมเงิน), kradum saet (กระดุมแสด).
Notes: This species has often been called Zinnia angustifolia. The true Z. angustifolia belongs to Zinnia section Mendezia in which the inner surface of the corolla lobes of the disc florets is not velvety pubescent.
