Description : Shrub, to 3 m tall; stems erect, pubescent, branched above, branches ribbed, finely curly hairy. Leaves alternate, obovate, 2.5–9 by 1–5.5 cm, apex acute or mucronate, base entire, tapering, margins acutely serrate-dentate, both surfaces subglabrous, obscurely glandular, very aromatic, light-green; petioles 1–3 mm long. Inflorescences corymbose, terminal and axillary, with obliquely patent branches, rather dense, 2.5–12.5 cm wide. Capitula ca 10 mm diam. at flowering; involucres narrowly cylindrical, 5–6 by 2.5–3 mm; phyllaries 6- or 7-seriate, imbricate, outer ovate, green, finely curly hairy, persistent, apex obtuse, inner linear-lanceolate, scarious, apex ciliate, falling with ripe achenes; receptacle glabrous. Marginal florets 22–26 per capitulum; corollas violet, filiform, 3–3.5 mm long. Disc florets 1–5 per capitulum; corolla base pale violet, tubular, ca 4 mm long. Achenes subturbinate, ca 1 mm long, brown with pale angles, glabrous; pappus of capillary bristles, 3–3.5 mm long, tawny-white.


Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Prachuap Khiri Khan (Sam Roi Yot); CENTRAL: Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok), Samut Prakan (Bang Pakong, Bang Pu Kao, Ban Khlong Ta Wai), Nakhon Pathom (Nakhon Chaisi), Samut Sakhon (Ban Khlong Su); SOUTH-EASTERN: Chachoengsao (Bang Pa Ken), Trat (Ko Chang, Klong); PENINSULAR: Chumphon (Kao Mut), Phuket (Thalang, Ko Yao Yai, Nai Han Beach).


Distribution : India (type), Myanmar, China (Yunnan, Guizhou), the Philippines, Vietnam (Saigon), Malaysia (Malacca), Indonesia.


Ecology : Open areas in mangrove, evergreen forests and in old clearings, 0–50 m alt. Flowering: August–March, perhaps all year round.


Vernacular : Khlu (ขลู)(Peninsular); khlu (ขลู่)(Central); nuat ngua (หนวดงั่ว), nuat ngio (หนวดงิ้ว), nuat ngua (หนาดงัว)(Udon Thani); nuat wua (หนาดวัว)(Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani).


CommonName : Indian marsh fleabane.
