Description : Scrambling or climbing shrub over thickets, 4 m long from roots to branchlets; stems slender, woody, to 5 mm diam. at lower stem, leafy, glabrous or sparsely pubescent. Leaves sessile or petiolate, sometimes auriculate; blade ovate to narrowly ovate in outline, 3–10 by 0.5–3 cm, apex acuminate, base narrowed down petiole, margins variable from entire to toothed or lobed or dissected almost to midrib, both surfaces often glabrous, occasionally pubescent; petioles 0–2.5 cm long. Inflorescences in axillary and terminal corymbs with 5–20 capitula; peduncles slender, to 6 cm long, pubescent. Capitula: involucres cylindrical to turbinate, 8–12 by ca 8 mm; calyculate, calycular bracts 6, slender, to 5 mm long; phyllaries 8–13, uniseriate, linear-lanceolate, dark purple, 1–1.2 mm wide, apex gradually tapering, abaxial surfaces hairy, margins narrowly hyaline; receptacle slightly convex, somewhat fimbrillate. Florets ca 21 per capitulum; corollas orange-yellow, 10–12 mm long, apex 5-lobed, lobes 1–1.5 mm long, basal tube ca 8 mm long. Achenes cylindrical, 4–4.5 mm long, 10-ribbed, ribs pale brown, grooves dark brown, glabrous; pappus of capillary bristles, 10–11 mm long, white.

Distribution : Widespread from tropical W Africa to E & SE Asia, China (Hainan, Guangdong), Vietnam (type), Malaysia (Borneo, Sabah), Indonesia (Sumatra, West Java, Buru), New Guinea.


Ecology : Edges of evergreen forests, 125–950 m alt. Flowering: December–February.


Vernacular : Pra kham di khwai (ประคำดีควาย)(Central, Peninsular, Pattani); ma kham di khwai (มะคำดีควาย)(Central, Peninsular, Lampang, Pattani, Saraburi); mu maeng sang (มุแมงสัง)(Chumphon).
