Description : Annual herb, 0.2–1 m tall; stems erect, pubescent with long hairs and stipitate glands. Leaves petiolate, blade lyrately lobed, 4.5–38 by 0.8–21 cm, apex acute, base attenuate, sometimes semi-amplexicaul, margins serrate with minute spines, upper surface bright green, lower surface pubescent with glandular hairs; petioles 0.5–5 cm long, sometimes with narrow wings. Inflorescences terminal, large, loose panicles, 15–40 cm long. Capitula 5–7 mm diam., peduncles slender, 5–10 mm long, pubescent with stipitate glands; involucres campanulate; phyllaries 4–6-seriate, outer bracts lanceolate, pubescent with hairs and stipitate glands, apex acute, inner linear, margins ciliate, pubescent with hairs and stipitate glands; receptacle 2.5–4 mm diam., slightly convex, alveolate, pubescent. Marginal floret corollas yellow; basal tube 3–4.5 mm long, lobes hairy or glabrous. Disc floret corollas yellow, basal tube 3.7–5 mm long, glabrous, lobes lanceolate, 0.4–0.5 mm long, pubescent with unicellular and glandular hairs; anthers 1.3–1.5 mm long, apical appendages acute, bases with unbranched tails, anther-tails shorter than anther collars; style arms ca 0.5 mm long, base swollen. Achenes oblong, terete, 1–1.5 mm long, setuliferous; pappus bristles ca 15, 3.5–4 mm long, persistent, white.

Distribution : China (Hainan, Gaungdong, Yunnan, Guangxi, Hong Kong, Taiwan), Japan (Kyushu, Ryukyu), India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Indochina, Malaysia (Peninsular), Indonesia (Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Lombok, Sumbawa, West Timor), the Philippines (Bababac, Culion, Leyte, Luzon, Mindanao, Samar), Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Guam.
Ecology : A common weed in rice fields and in disturbed areas, from sea level to above 1,900 m alt. Flowering: November–June.
