Description : Annual herb, 5–40 cm tall; stems prostrate or procumbent, villous or pubescent with pilose and glandular hairs. Leaves petiolate, blade obovate or oblanceolate, 0.7–7.5 by 0.2–3 cm, apex acute or round, base attenuate or cuneate, margins serrate with sharp subspiny teeth, coriaceous, bright green, upper surface scabrous, lower surface tomentose or sericeous, upper leaves and inflorescence bracts sometimes entire; petioles to 3 mm long. Inflorescences terminal and/or axillary, few capitula arranged in loose panicles, 4–15 cm long. Capitula 3–5 mm diam., peduncles 0.2–1.3 cm long; involucres campanulate; phyllaries 4–5-seriate, outer lanceolate, 0.4–0.5 mm wide, pubescent with hairs and stipitate glands, inner herbaceous with ciliate margins, densely hairy without stipitate glands; receptacle 3–4 mm diam., flat or slightly convex, alveolate, glabrous. Marginal floret corollas yellow, basal tube 2.5–4 mm long, lobes pubescent with multicellular hairs. Disc floret corollas yellow, basal tube 2.6–4.5 mm long, glabrous, lobes oblong-lanceolate, 0.3–0.5 mm long, densely pubescent with multicellular hairs and glandular hairs; anthers generally sterile, if fertile ca 1.5 mm long, apical appendages acute, bases with unbranched tails, anther-tails equal to, or longer than anther collars; style arms ca 1 mm long, base swollen. Achenes oblong, 4–5-ribbed, 0.7–0.8 mm long, setuliferous; pappus bristles 10–12, 3–4 mm long, caducous, white.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep, Bo Luang, Fang, Ban Kao, Meping); NORTH-EASTERN: Sakon Nakhon (Kamtakla); SOUTH-EASTERN: Trat (Ko Chang).
Distribution : India (Negapatam, Bengal – type), Bhutan, China (Yunnan), Vietnam.
Ecology : Dry and open places with sandy soil or sandy waysides, from sea level to 1,700 m alt. Flowering: October–May.
Vernacular : Pat nam (ปัดน้ำ)(Northeastern, Loei); ya dok mapat (หญ้าดอกมะปัด)(Loei).
