Description : Perennial herb, 1.5–2.0 m tall, stoloniferous; stems robust, erect, glabrous or nearly so below inflorescence, branched above, branches ending in Inflorescences. Leaves cauline; lower leaves withering before flowering; median leaves petiolate; blade chiefly obovate or ovate in outline, 11–14 by 5–8 cm, cleft nearly to midrib, base usually with stipule-like lobes, lateral segments ascending, apex acuminate, unequal, toothed or cleft, upper surfaces green, pubescent or nearly so, white-dotted, lower surfaces densely white tomentose; petioles 0.5–2.5 cm long; upper leaves gradually smaller, pinnately lobed, 3-lobed or entire. Inflorescences in narrow, leafy, pyramidal panicles. Capitula disciform; involucres globose to campanulate, 2.2–2.5 by ca 2.3 mm; phyllaries 3- or 4-seriate, imbricate, outer phyllaries ovate or ovate-acuminate, 1.2–2.5 mm long, inner phyllaries oblong; receptacle flattened, naked. Marginal florets 7–9 per capitulum, fertile; corollas filiform, ca 1.5 mm long, glabrous. Disc florets ca 13 per capitulum, staminate, fertile; corollas campanulate, 1.6–2 mm long. Achenes brown, oblong or obovoid, 1.25–1.5 mm, glabrous.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Mae Klang, Siriphum Falls, Mae Pan Falls, Doi Inthanon, Mae Taman Reforestation Unit, Doi Pha Hom Pok, Khun Wang), Phitsanulok (Phu Miang).


Distribution : E Himalayas (Sikkim, Assam), Bhutan, China (Sichuan – type, Guizhou, Yunnan).


Ecology : Grassy slopes in old clearings and edges of mossy evergreen forests, 1,200–2,500 m alt. Flowering: September–October.
