Description : Shrub or medium-sized tree, rarely epiphyte, to 6 m tall; branchlets rather robust, angled and striate lengthwise, glabrous or puberulous; axillary buds subglobose. Leaves obovate, oblong-obovate, oblanceolate, 4–12 by 2–6.5 cm, thickly coriaceous, glabrous, laxly thick-glandular-punctate beneath; base cuneate and merging into the petiole; margin entire, (slightly) revolute, with a thick marginal gland on each side at the base of the blade or apex of petiole; apex round, obtuse to short blunt acuminate; midrib flattened and slightly grooved above; veins 3–7 pairs on each side of midrib; petiole flattened, 4–10 by 1.5–2 mm, initially puberulous. Inflorescences racemose, to 10 cm long, to 25-flowered; rachis rather slender, angular, 3–6 cm long, glabrous to densely hairy. Flowers white or pinkish white; pedicels 4–6 mm long, glabrous to hairy. Calyx tube cup-shaped, 1–3 by 1–3.5 mm, glabrous to hairy; calyx limb 1–2.2 mm long; calyx lobes triangular, 1–2 by 1–1.8 mm, erect or recurved, sometimes with an apical gland, margin ciliate or entire. Corolla urceolate-tubular, glabrous or sparsely hairy at both sides, 4.5–8 by 2–4 mm; lobes suberect or subrecurved, obtuse, ca 1 mm. Filaments subulate, 2–4 mm long, densely hairy; anthers 1–1.4 mm without or with very short 2 spurs; tubules narrowly cylindrical, narrower than the cells, 1–3 mm long, obliquely cut apically or with 2 small teeth at apex. Styles slender, 6–7 mm, glabrous or pilose at base; disc glabrous. Fruit submature globular, to 5 mm in diam., glabrescent.
Thailand : PENINSULAR: Nakhorn Si Thammarat (Khao Luang), Yala (Betong, Khao Han Kut, Khao Cho Tong), Narathiwat (Hala Bala).
Distribution : Malaysia (type).
Ecology : In montane forests, 1,200–1,400 m alt. Flowering: March and July.
Notes: Variation in hairiness on the rachis, pedicel and calyx has been found in the Khao Luang population. Thus var. trichostylum Sleumer is united. However, there is some doubt about the variation in corolla shape and stamen tubules of this species. More specimens are needed to clarify the situation.
