Description : Deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub to 2 m tall; young branches terete or slightly ridged, often pubescent turning glabrous; buds 2–6 by 2–4 mm. Leaves oblong, elliptic to slightly ovate or obovate, 2.5–5 by 1.2–3 cm; base narrowly cuneate to rounded or rarely cordate; margin slightly revolute; apex abruptly short-acuminate, to acute or rounded with a small mucro; midrib prominent beneath; veins 4–7 on each side of midrib; secondary veins not prominent beneath or obscure; sparse with short brown scale-like hairs on both surfaces; petiole 2–5 mm, sparsely hairy, grooved and flattened above. Inflorescences (2–)3–7(–11) cm long, usually with 3–9 rather large, leaflike bracts 0.8–3 cm long near lower portion or scattered throughout; rachis ridged, hairy; pedicels 3.5–7 mm long, pubescent. Calyx lobes narrowly triangular, 2.5–4 by 0.8–2 mm, sparsely hairy. Corolla tubular, 7–10 by 3–5.5 mm, puberulous inside. Filaments 5–6 mm long with 2 spurs near the apex, ca 0.5 mm long; anthers 1.2–1.4 by 0.3–0.5 mm. Styles 6–7 mm long, glabrous; stigma truncate. Capsules short-ovoid or ovoid, 3–4 by 3.5–4.5 mm, with 5 pale, quite thickened sutures that in dehiscence remain attached to an adjacent valve. Seeds brown, 0.8–1 by 0.2–0.3 mm.


Thailand : NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Phu Kradueng, Phu Luang).


Distribution : Endemic to Thailand.


Ecology : In open areas in pine-oak forests, 1,045–1,300 m alt.


Vernacular : Dok tai bai (ดอกใต้ใบ)(Loei).
