Accepted Name : This is currently accepted.


Description : Tree to 40 m, grey-white bark; branchlets with mostly short spreading hairs, tardily glabrescent. Leaves with petiole to 6 mm long, indumentum a mixture of short and long hairs; blade obovate, to 14 by 6 cm, base cuneate, apex rounded, apiculate, lower surface with rather dense long and short spreading hairs, sparser on upper surface. Inflorescence main axis to 35 cm long, indumentum of dense spreading short and long hairs, bases often crowded together and appearing stellate; main axis sometimes dividing into several long axes near base; bracts on axes ovate to triangular, to 2 mm long, subtending a single flower or a few flowers forming a linear cluster along the axis. Flowers sessile, 5 or 6-merous, foetid. Calyx tube to 2 mm long, indumentum of dense ascending hairs; sepals and petals similar, oblong, to 1.5 mm long. Petals slightly smaller than sepals; rather dense appressed to ascending hairs outside, much sparser inside. Disc glands with dense hairs. Stamens one opposite each petal, slightly longer than petals, filaments glabrous. Ovary with long ascending hairs outside, scattered short hairs inside; styles 2 or 3, ca 1 mm long.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Phitsanulok; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi; CENTRAL: Saraburi; SOUTH-EASTERN: Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi.


Distribution : India, Myanmar, Indochina, Indonesia (type from Java).


Ecology : In mixed deciduous forests, to 700 m alt.


Vernacular : Khang nang (ขางนาง), kha nang (ขานาง), (คะนาง)(Central), kha nang (ค่านาง), khot (โคด)(Rayong); chang phueak luang (ช้างเผือกหลวง)(Chiang Mai); sae-phlu (แซพลู้)(Karen-Kanchanaburi); pa ngang (ปะหง่าง)(Ratchaburi); plueai (เปลือย)(Kanchanaburi); pueai nang (เปี๋อยนาง), pueai kha nang (เปื๋อยคะนาง)(Uttaradit); pueai khang hai (เปื๋อยค่างไห้)(Lampang); ling ngo (ลิงง้อ)(Nakhon Ratchasima).


CommonName : Burma lancewood, Moulmein lancewood.
