Description : Plant epiphytic; rhizome creeping, enclosed by papyraceous scales, soon turning into caducous thin fibres. Pseudobulbs ovoid-cylindric, bulging below the centre, tapering to both ends, 4.5–9 by 1.2–1.5 cm, usually wrinkled, base usually enclosed by papyraceous sheaths, soon turning into caducous thin fibres. Foliage leaves 2 per pseudobulb, arising from pseudobulb apex, oblong-lanceolate, 10–20 by 1.8–3.5 cm, apex acuminate, base cuneate, lamina glossy green, coriaceous; petiole to 3 cm long. Inflorescence proteranthous or synanthous, to 25 cm long; peduncle 1–5 cm long, shorter than rachis, base covered with scales; rachis slender, straight, pendulous, laxly 20- to 35-flowered; floral bracts ovate-oblong, 0.5–1 by 2.5–5 mm, inrolled, acute, persistent during and after anthesis, caducous during fruit setting. Flowers pinkish-orange; pedicel and ovary 3.5–6 mm long, angular. Sepals subsimilar; dorsal sepal ovate, 2.5–4 by 1.5–3.2 mm, acute, 5-nerved; lateral sepals oblique, broadly ovate, 2.7–4.5 by 2–3 mm, acute, 5-nerved. Petals linear-lanceolate, 3.5–4 by 0.5–0.8 mm, acute to obtuse, 1-nerved. Labellum 3-lobed, 3–4.5 mm long, ornamented by a low rounded keel at base; mid-lobe ovate-orbicular, apiculate, deflexed; side lobes erect, with a rounded upper edge, abruptly lowering in front. Column pinkish-orange, slender, 2.5–3.5 mm long; hood long, retuse at apex. Fruit ellipsoid, 0.8–1.2 by 0.5–0.6 cm.

Distribution : NE India (type), Bhutan, Myanmar, Vietnam.


Ecology : Hill evergreen forests, 1,100–1,200 m alt. Flowering: October–December.


Vernacular : Ueang lam to phu hin (เอื้องลำต่อภูหิน).
