Description : Flowering shoots 25–60 cm tall. Pseudobulbs insignificant, hidden by the bases of the foliage leaves, ovoid, 2–4 by ca 2 cm. Foliage leaves 5–7, elliptic-oblong, acuminate, perennial, 6–25 by 3–7 cm; petioles 7–10 cm long. Inflorescences lax, puberulous, greenish-purple; peduncles 19–48 cm long; sterile bracts lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, 1.8–3.2 cm long; rachis 6–12 cm long, few- to many-flowered; floral bracts lanceolate, acuminate, persistent, 15–25 by 3–5 mm. Flowers ca 20 mm in diameter; lavender, lilac or mauve. Sepals ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 9–16 by 4–6.2 mm, outside puberulous. Petals linear-oblong, acuminate, subacute, 9–13 by 1–1.9 mm. Labellum 3-lobed, base fused with the column, 10–15 by 6–11 mm, spurless; mid-lobe ovate, apiculate, erose on the front margins, 5–9.5 by 4.5–7.5 mm; side lobes ovate oblong, obtuse, forwards-pointing, 3–6 by 3.3–3.5 mm; disk ornamented by 2 calli at the base. Column stout, 4–6.5 by ca 3 mm. Ovary (including pedicel) puberulous, 15–30 mm long. Capsule ellipsoid, ca 30 by 14 mm.

Distribution : NE India (type), Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Japan.
Ecology : Terrestrial in hill evergreen forests; 1,300–2,100 m alt. Flowering: April, September.
Vernacular : Ua dok muang pak leam (อั้วดอกม่วงปากแหลม).
