Description : A terrestrial herb. Leaves suberect, 4–6, linear, obtuse to rounded at unequally bilobulate apex, 10–35 cm long, 1.2–1.5 cm wide, green, intensely purple spotted towards the base beneath. Inflorescence 1-flowered; peduncle 16–20 cm long, slender, green, purple-spotted; bract narrowly elliptic to elliptic, obtuse, 4–4.4 cm long, 2–2.4 cm wide, green to yellow-green, heavily spotted with dark purple. Flower 6.8–7.5 cm in diameter; dorsal sepal white, with the centre flushed red-brown, yellow at the base; synsepal pale yellow-green with darker veins: petals glossy, pale buff-brown with darker veins; labellum glossy, buff with darker veins, pedicel and ovary green, pubescent, 2.2–4 cm long. Dorsal sepal ovate-elliptic, obtuse, 3.8–4.2 cm long, 2.8–3.2 cm wide, pubescent on outer surface. Synsepal oblong-elliptic, obtuse, 1.8–2.3 cm long, 1–1.5 cm wide. Petals incurved, subhorizontal, oblanceolate, rounded at apex, 3.5–3.6 cm long, 0.7–0.9 cm wide, ciliate, purple-pubescent at base, upper margins strongly undulate. Labellum 2.8–3.2 cm long, 1.4–1.6 cm wide. Staminode obovate, obtuse to rarely retuse, 10 mm long, 6 mm wide, with a glossy boss two thirds of the way.


Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Khao Laem Dam area, Thong Pha Phum – type: cult. Popow, holotype -HAL).


Distribution : SW China; 500 to 750 m alt.


Ecology : In shade of primary forests. Flowering: October and November.
