Description : Flowering shoots 14–35 cm tall. Foliage leaves 5–10, herbaceous, scattered along the stem, uniformly (glaucous-)green; lamina elliptic to broadly lanceolate, more or less oblique, acuminate to acute, (2.4–)3.2–8 by (1.2–)1.5–4.5 cm. Inflorescence cylindric, dense, glabrous; rachis 2.5–6.5 cm long, 6- to 17-flowered; bracts linear, acuminate to acute, longer than the ovaries, glabrous, 10–23 by 2–5.5 mm. Flowers sessile, pale and dull pinkish-brown to whitish. Sepals (sub)glabrous; dorsal sepal boat-shaped, straight to slightly incurved, ovate-oblong, obtuse to subacuminate, 3-veined, 8–9.4 by 4.3–4.8 mm; lateral sepals slightly spreading, boat shaped, obliquely (ovate-)oblong, obtuse to acuminate, 8.2–10.2 by 3.8–4.8 mm. Petals obliquely (rhomboid-)oblanceolate, rounded to obtuse, 8–10.8 by 3.2–3.6 mm. Labellum broadly ovate, 7.5–8.8 by 4.4–5.2 mm, concave with a flat, rounded to subacute porrect apex; the concave part with numerous fleshy hairs, devoid of other ornaments. Column 6.5–8 mm long; anther acuminate in front, 5–5.3 mm long. Ovary 9–10.3 mm long, (sub)glabrous. Capsule sessile, slenderly ellipsoid, 7–12 mm long, 2.5–5 mm in diameter.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Phitsanulok (Phu Soi Dao); NORTH-EASTERN: Loei (Phu Luang); SOUTH-WESTERN: Prachuap Khiri Khan (Huai Yang).


Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java (type), Borneo, Sulawesi, Flores, Timor.


Ecology : In hill evergreen forests, mainly on sandstone bedrock; 1,100–2,100 m alt. Flowering: recorded in July and September–November.


Vernacular : Chom phu phrai wan (ชมพูไพรวัลย์).
