Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao – type of Clematis wattii, Doi Pa Khao – type of C. wattii, Doi Inthanon – type of C. wattii), Chiang Rai.
Distribution : Kashmir, Nepal (type), Bhutan, Myanmar, China (Yunnan), Indochina.
Ecology : Climbing on bushes along the edges of evergreen or mixed forests, or scattered on grassy slopes, 1,000–2,100 m alt. Flowering: November–February; fruiting: January–March, but seasons are not strictly fixed.
Vernacular : Khampong luang (คำปองหลวง), kam pong luang (กำปองหลวง), khruea bucha (เครือบูชา)(Northern).
Notes: Clematis wattii was described from Thailand and characterized by the leaves and young branches being densely covered with white hairs. The specimens are similar to C. buchananiana, and the indumentum is not sufficient to merit a separate species.
