Description : Annual herbaceous twiners, axial parts densely hispid-pilose with retrorse hairs; stems 1–2 m. Leaves cordate-ovate, 2.5–9 by 2.5–7.5 cm, pilose, underside more densely so, base cordate, margin entire, apex acuminate or attenuate; petiole 1.5–6 cm. Inflorescences capitate, few- to several-flowered, involucrate; peduncle 1.5–7 cm; outer bracts navicular, tapered at both ends, 27–55 mm, outside densely pubescent, inside long hirtellous, bracteoles oblong-spathulate, much smaller, villous. Flowers nocturnal; sepals nearly equal, 8–10 mm, outer 3 sepals elliptic spathulate, inner 2 sepals narrower, lanceolate, villous, apex obtuse; corolla salverform, 2.5–3 cm, pink or purple, tube cylindric, limb with deltoid lobes, midpetaline bands pilose; stamens inserted near middle of corolla tube; pistil included, ovary glabrous. Capsule subglobose, 5–6 mm diam. Seeds 3–4 mm, dark brown, glabrous or shortly pubescent.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai, Tak; NORTH-EASTERN: Nong Khai, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham; EASTERN: Buri Ram, Ubon Ratchathani; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan; SOUTH-EASTERN: Sa Kaeo, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi.


Distribution : Africa, India (type), Sri Lanka, China, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines.


Ecology : In clearings and sunny areas in grassy fields, old clearings, margins of rice paddy, thickets, scrub and disturbed areas in dipterocarp forests and deciduous dipterocarp-oak forests, < 50–520 m alt. Flowering: February, September, November, December; fruiting: November, December.


Vernacular : Thao song salueng (เถาสองสลึง)(Nakhon Ratchasima, Chon Buri); an chan (อัญชัน)(Phetchabun); ching cho liam (จิงจ้อเหลี่ยม)(Chanthaburi).
