Description : Tree, 8–30 m high; young branches pubescent. Leaves: petioles terete, 5.5–15 cm long; leaflets 7–15 pairs, opposite or alternate, elliptic, ovate or oblong, 4–10 by 1.5–3.5 cm, apex caudate or sharply acuminate, base obliquely rounded, entire, chartaceous, puberulous on both surfaces, midrib pubescent beneath, lateral nerves 8–10 per side, arched and joined together near the margin, without intramarginal vein; petiolules 2–5 mm long. Inflorescences axillary panicles, accompanied by mature leaves; bracts lanceolate, ca 1.5 by 8 mm. Flowers white; pedicels 3–4 mm; calyx lobes, triangular, 2.4 mm long, outside puberulous; petals oblong, 2–3 by 1 mm; stamens 8–10, filaments filiform, as long as petals, anthers oblong, 1 by 0.5 mm; disc cupuliform, 0.2 mm long, crenulate; ovary 1.2 by 0.7–1 mm, 4–5 carpels, styles stout, straight, stigmas coherent, 0.7 mm long. Drupes subovoid or oblong, 1 by 0.7 cm, 4–5 locular; mesocarp fleshy; endocarp woody, usually 4 celled, with 4 seeds alternating 4 large rounded cavities which form the angles of the fruits.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Chiang Dao), Lampang (type); NORTH EASTERN: Nakhon Phanom.


Distribution : SE China (Hainan), Laos, Vietnam.


Ecology : In open evergreen forests, on slopes or by streams, 220–500 m alt.


Vernacular : Ma ho (มะห้อ)(Northern).
