Description : Tree, 25–40 m high; bark greyish-brown; branches glabrous. Leaves elliptic-oblong or obovate, 5–25 by 3–9 cm, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate; subcoriaceous, glabrous on both surfaces, lateral nerves 7–14 per side, arched, slightly raised on both surfaces, reticulation conspicuous on both surfaces; petiole 2–5 cm long, cylindrical, groove above. Panicles terminal and in apical leaf axils, puberulous. Flowers small, creamy-white; calyx 4-lobed, lobed ovate, pubescent outside; petals 4 (rarely 5), with 3–5 ridges near base; disc short-cupular, 2–4-lobed, papillose; stamens 4, rarely 5, 1 fertile, filaments free; ovary subglobose. Drupes ellipsoid or obovoid, 2.5–3.5 by 2.5–3 cm, dark purple to blackish when ripe; flesh pale orange-yellow, fibrous, sour-sweet.

Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Malesia.


Ecology : In lowland forests, up to 360 m alt. Flowering: August–October. Fruiting: January–October.


Vernacular : Mamuang pa (มะม่วงป่า)(Narathiwat); mamuang lawa (มะม่วงลาว้า), la-wo (ละโว้)(Malay-Narathiwat).
