Description : Tree, 10–50 m high; buttressed; bark light brown to grey, dippled and scaly. Leaves obovate or elliptic, 12–19 by 4.5–6.5 cm, apex obtuse or rounded, base cuneate, coriaceous, lateral nerves 20–26 per side, raised on both surfaces, venation reticulate, conspicuous on both surfaces; petioles 0.5–1.5 cm long, stout. Panicles axillary, 12–22 cm long, glabrous or glabrescent. Flowers white, fragrant; pedicels 3–7 mm; calyx tubular, 4–5 by 3–3.5 mm, splitting irregularly, glabrous; petals oblanceolate or linear, 7–13 by 2–3 mm, finely veined, glabrous outside, papillose inside; stamens 5, filaments 8 mm long, anthers oblong, ca 1 mm; torus cylindric, 2–3 mm long; ovary subglobose, 1–1.5 mm in diam., tuberculate, short-stalked, style lateral, 2.5–4 mm long. Drupes subglobose, 3.5–5 cm in diam., with irregular crests, brown scurfy; without wing-like petals.

Distribution : Java (type), Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Celebes.
Ecology : In peat swamps, along river banks in fresh water tidal reaches. Flowering and fruiting: January–August.
Vernacular : Rak ban (รักบ้าน)(Songkhla); rak khao (รักเขา)(Ranong).
