Description : Erect shrubs or subshrubs, up to ca 3 m tall; branchlets terete, without aerial roots. Leaves elliptic, 4.5–14.5 by 2–5 cm, base cuneate, apex short acuminate to acuminate, margin crenulate or serrate, nerves 5–8 per side; petiole 3–9 mm long. Inflorescences cymose, to 5 cm long, 2–4 times branched, peduncle 2–3 cm long, pedicels ca 5 mm long. Flowers pale green, 4-merous. Calyx lobes semi-round, ca 1 by 2 mm. Petals membranous, suborbiculate, 3–5 mm in diam., with ca 7 veins spreading upwards from the base. Disk shallowly discoid, ca 2 mm in diam. Stamens ca 1 mm long. Pistil ca 1 mm above disc, smooth. Fruits globose, ca 8 mm in diam., smooth, brown or brownish yellow.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai (Doi Inthanon); SOUTH-WESTERN: Prachuap Khiri Khan (Huai Yang); CENTRAL: Saraburi (near Phu Khae Botanical Garden).


Distribution : India, Bhutan, Nepal (type), Bangladesh, Myanmar, China.


Ecology : Evergreen forests, also found on slope of limestone hill in seasonal rain forests, 140–ca 2,400 m alt.
