Description : Small trees, up to 12 m high by 19 cm diam.; branchlets terete, rarely angular. Leaves chartaceous to subcoriaccous, elliptic to elliptic-oblong, sometimes obovate-oblong, 4.5–16(–25) by 2.5–7(–10) cm, base cuneate, rarely obtuse or rounded, apex acute, acuminate, margin entire, sometimes remotely serrate, nerves and veins obscure or slightly elevated on both surfaces, petiole 3–8(–15) mm long. Inflorescences axillary, extra-axillary, and sometimes on internodes, usually at the basal part of the new twig, cymose, 3–10.5 cm long, loosely, dichotomously (up to 5 times) branched; peduncle 1–8 cm long; bracts lanceolate, ca 2 mm long, fimbriate; pedicels 3–5 mm long. Flowers 5-merous, light yellowish or greenish yellow. Calyx lobes sub-reniform, 1.5–2.5 by 2–4 mm, shortly fimbriate. Petals broad-obovate, ca 4.5 by 4 mm, margin usually fimbriate, areolate on the inner surface. Disk fleshy, suborbiculate or obscurely 5-angular, ca 3 mm diam. Stamens inserted between the pistil and disk margin; filaments ca 2 mm long, flat, subulate; anthers ± deltoid, ca 1 mm long, obtuse or slightly apiculate. Pistil ca 2 mm above the disc, gradually narrowed upwards; stigma obscure. Fruits broad-obovoid or subglobose, ca 10 mm long and wide, concave at the apex, often deeply 5-lobed. Seeds ellipsoid, obtuse at both ends, 5–6 by 3–4 mm.

Distribution : India (Andaman Islands), Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam (type), Malay Peninsula, Indonesia, the Philippines.
Ecology : Evergreen (sometimes also in deciduous or seasonal) forests, from lowland to 1,850 (–2,150) m alt. Flowering: February, March, May–August, November, December; fruiting: April, June–December.
Vernacular : Maha kanang (มะหากาหนัง)(Lao, Chiang Mai); ta si sawi (ตาสีไสว)(Chiang Mai).
