Accepted Name : This is currently accepted.


Description : Plants including leaves hairy, not scabrous. Leaves: blade lobed, lobes acute or obtuse. Male flowers: pedicel subterete; receptacle-tube (shortly) campanulate; sepals linear. Female flowers: pedicel ± angular; receptacle-tube as in male; sepals ± linear or mostly leaf-like broadened at apex (long-clawed). Fruit (depressed) globose, elongated or flask-shaped, often shallowly furrowed (sulcate) from apex to petiole; fruiting pedicel angled, distinctly broadened at the transition to the fruit. Seeds variable in size, 10–15(–20) mm long.


Vernacular : Nam tao (น้ำเต้า)(Peninsular); fak khiao (ฟักเขียว), ma fak kaeo (มะฟักแก้ว)(Northern); fak thong (ฟักทอง)(Central); ma nam kaeo (มะน้ำแก้ว)(Loei); mak-khi-sa (หมักคี้ส่า), lueang-khe-sa (เหลืองเคส่า)(Karen-Mae Hong Son); mak ue (หมักอื้อ)(Loei, Prachin Buri); mak-fak-lueang (หมากฟักเหลือง)(Shan-Mae Hong Son).


CommonName : Cuchew, Pumpkin, Winter squash.


Notes: Cucurbita moschata is the most heat-tolerant species and found most frequently in the lowland tropics.
