Description : Tree, up to 20 m high; bark greyish-black, inner bark whitish with dark brown stripes. Leaves simple, alternate, tri-lobed or cordate, 10–14 x 12–18 cm, subcoriaceous, with dense indumentum of soft hairs on lower surface, usually tri-lobed, with acute to obtuse apex and cordate base, entire or undulate margin; main nerves 5 from base, secondary nerves 4–6 pairs, straight and anastomosing near margin, scalariform nerves distinct on lower surface. Petioles 7–12 cm, densely hairy, swollen and wrinkled at base when dry. Inflorescences in panicles, 5–15 cm long, terminal and at upper leaf scars; bracteoles scale-like, hairy, caducous. Calyx conical, funnel-shaped, 1.5–2 x 0.5–1 cm, lobes ⅓–½ of calyx length; hairy on both sides, outside with brown to orange-red indumentum. Stamens in 5 groups of 5, column hairy, ca 2 cm long; anthers curved, 2 lobed, extrorse. Ovary glabrous, 5-locular, free from each other, each with 2–(4) ovules; styles linear and curved outward. Capsules oblong, with acute apex. Seeds 2, ellipsoid, smooth.


Thailand : EASTERN: Nakhon Ratchasima; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Sai Yok).


Distribution : India (type).


Ecology : Scattered in deciduous forests, 100–200 m alt. Flowering and fruiting: January–March; leafless in flowering stage.


Vernacular : Po khao (ปอคาว)(Southwestern).


Main
