Description : Shrub, 2–5 m high, branchlets subterete and glabrous. Leaves of a pair sometimes unequal in size, elliptic, ovate-oblong, or ovate-lanceolate, 10–20 x 5–8.7 cm, base obtuse or cordate, apex acuminate, tip 1–2.5 cm long, margin entire, lamina with 2–3 pairs of lateral primary veins, above subglabrous, below softly pilose or puberulous or rarely glabrous, petioles (1–)3–5(–7) cm long. Inflorescence axes pilose or minutely puberulous, glabrescent, 4–6 cm long, flowers in clusters of 5–7. Flowers 4-merous; pedicels 10–20 mm long, minutely puberulous. Hypanthium cylindrical, 6–7 mm long, minutely puberulous; calyx lobes dorsally with a thick, wing-like cusp. Petals 7–9 mm long, pink. Stamens 8, subisomorphic, anthers 10–12 mm long, white. Capsule ± cylindrical, 8–11 mm long, crowned by the persistent calyx rim.

Distribution : Burma (Tenasserim or Andaman Islands – type: Helfer 2660 -K).


Ecology : Evergreen forests, 180–1,600 m alt.


Vernacular : Mang le (มังเล)(Nakhon Si Thammarat); mang le khuan (มังเลควน), mare khuan (มะเรควน)(Pattani).
