Description : Small, deciduous tree to about 15 m tall, young shoots pubescent. Leaves 20-30 cm long, with 5–7 leaflets, leaflets ovate to lanceolate or elliptic-oblong, (7–)8–11(–15) cm long, (2.5–)4–5(–9) cm broad; base narrowed, attenuate onto the petiolule to rounded; apex acute to somewhat acuminate; softly pubescent below, scattered pubescent above or glabrous; margins entire; (6–)7 primary veins on each side of the midrib, raised below, immersed above, venation reticulate; petioles 6–10 cm long, swollen at the base, pubescent, at least when young, lateral petiolules 5–15 mm long, articulated with the rachis, terminal petiolules 15–40 mm long. Inflorescence terminal, cymose-paniculate, corymbose, 6–10(–15) cm long, many-flowered, glabrous or slightly pubescent; bracts linear-lanceolate, early caducous; pedicels 1–5 mm long. Calyx campanulate, puberulent; tube 2–3 mm long, accrescent in fruit; lobes obscure. Corolla salver-shaped; tube 8–11 mm long; lobes 6–7, 4–6 mm long, 4 mm broad, obovate to somewhat obcuneate, rounded to slightly emarginate, upper surface covered with brown, swollen hairs. Anthers 2 mm long; filaments very short; connective not developed into an appendage. Ovary 1 mm tall; style 5 or 10 mm long, slightly bilobed, stigma capitate, 0.75 mm long. Capsule hard, woody, obpyriform, 5–6 cm long, 3–3.5 cm diameter; seeds 3–4 cm long, winged, embryo basal on one side.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai (Doi Suthep, Doi Pha Kao), Lampang; EASTERN: Nakhon Ratchasima (Bua Yai); SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Si Sawat, near Ongba cave).


Distribution : India (throughout much of the peninsula, type from the Circars), Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos.


Ecology : Deciduous dipterocarp forests, from 250 to 800 m alt.


Vernacular : Makok phueak (มะกอกเผือก), kok don (กอกดอน), makok don (มะกอกดอน), makok khok (มะกอกโคก)(Northern); makak pa (มะกักป่า)(Ratchaburi).
