Description : Shrub to 2 m tall. Branchlets glabrous; strongly angled when young. Leaves: petiole 1–3.4 cm long; blade papery to subcoriaceous, narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate, 12–29 x 4.2–9.5 cm, apex acute to acuminate, base cuneate; secondary veins 12–25 pairs, arcuate ascending; glabrous. Inflorescence solitary, axillary or terminal; robust, flowers lax; 3.7–10 cm long, peduncle 1.4–4.4 cm long; glabrous; pedicels 2.8–6.5 mm long. Sepals ovate or lanceolate, 1.6–2.5 x 0.8–1.2 mm, apex acute to acuminate; glabrous, minutely ciliate or not. Corolla tube reddish or purplish, lobes white; tube 9.7–15.5 mm long; lobes 2.1–4 mm long; glabrous outside, pubescent in mouth and inside to just beneath the stamens. Stamens inserted at 8.5–9.1 mm from corolla base; filaments 0.4–0.6 mm long; anthers 1.2–2.1 x 0.4–0.7 mm. Disk 0.5–0.8 mm long. Ovary 1.4–2.2 mm long, carpels free up to the single style; style + pistil head 6.2–7.6 mm long. Fruits paired, free from each other; ovoid; 7–10.9 mm long, 4.4–5.8 mm wide. Seeds 6–7.1 x 2.5–3.9 mm.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Rai, Lampang; NORTH-EASTERN: Phetchabun; EASTERN: Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi; SOUTH-EASTERN: Chon Buri, Chanthaburi, Trat.
Distribution : Vietnam, Cambodia (type).
Ecology : In evergreen forests to 800 m alt. Also cultivated.
Vernacular : Kha yom luang (ขะย่อมหลวง)(Northeastern); kha yom tin ma (ขะย่อมตีนหมา)(Northern); nang yaem (นางแย้ม)(Nakhon Ratchasima); rayom (ระย่อม)(Trat).
Uses: Roots used in preparing a febrifuge.
