Description : Perennial herb, stems pubescent ascending. Leaves obovate-lanceolate, hirsute, 2–3 by 0.5–1 cm, petiole ca 0.5 cm. Inflorescences pedunculate; involucral bracts 2, leafy; spikes oblong, 2–3 by 1–1.2 cm. Bracts ovate-acuminate, glabrous, ca 3 mm long; bracteoles as long as or slightly longer than perianth, dorsal crest narrow, entire and only present in the flower part. Flowers white; tepals narrdwly lanceolate, 3 outer villous at base, 2 inner villous all over the dorsal side. Stamens shorter than or equalling perianth, anthers subsessile. Ovary obovoid; style very short, stigma bifid. Fruit obovoid. Seeds lenticular, 1 mm diam.


Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai, Lampang, Phitsanulok; NORTH- EASTERN: Khon Kaen; EASTERN: Nakhon Ratchasima; CENTRAL: Saraburi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok); SOUTH-EASTERN: Chanthaburi; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi, Phetchaburi; PENINSULAR: noted as common by the author.


Distribution : Origin in S America (Brazil – type), now spreading all over the warmer parts of the world.


Ecology : Weedy in open sunny places.


Vernacular : Ban mai ru roi pa (บานไม่รู้โรยป่า)(Central).
