Description : Small tree up to 4 m (sometimes climbing). Leaves lanceolate-elliptic to narrowly lanceolate, rarely ovate or obovate, (7–)11–18(–23) by (3–)4–6(–7) cm; apex acuminate or acute, base cuneate; petiole 1–3 mm. Inflorescences axillary but also on older branches or at the main trunk, usually solitary; rhachis 7–1 1 cm. Bracts broadly ovate to orbicular, abruptly acuminate, 6–7 by 6–7 mm. Flowers usually 3 per bract, without bracteoles (rarely 4 flowers per bract and then with 2 small bracteoles); pedicels 3–5 mm. Tepals greenish-yellow, 3 mm. Stamens white, filaments 4–5 mm; anthers elliptic, ca 1 mm. Disc broadly protruding-annular. Ovary cylindric, the upper part subconical, 1–1.5 mm. Drupe red, 13–15 by 7–9 mm; pedicel 5–6 mm.

Distribution : N Laos (type), N Vietnam, S China.


Ecology : In evergreen forests, up to 1,000 m alt.


Vernacular : Haen tum (แหนตุม)(Northeastern).
