Description : Caulescent herb with a subterranean tuber, 5–10 mm diam.; stem erect, glabrous up to 35 cm high, simple or with few branches. Stipules absent. Basal leaves early caducous; leaves along the stem with petioles 5–10 mm long; lamina peltate, triangular, 3–6 mm diam., with long tentacles. Cymes unbranched, few-flowered. Pedicels 1–2 cm. Sepals ovate-elliptic with serrate, fimbriate margin, 2–3 mm long. Petals white, obovate, 5–6 mm long. Stamens 5, free, 3–4 mm long with orbicular anthers. Ovary 3-carpellate; style 3, several times branched towards the apex. Capsule 3-valved, oblong spherical, ca 3 mm diam.


Thailand : NORTHERN: common; NORTH-EASTERN: common; SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (Bo Rae).


Distribution : Ceylon, SE Asia (absent from the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo), the Philippines, Japan and China, Australia (type) and Tasmania.


Ecology : In Thailand a typical mountain species occurring from 700 m up to 2,100 m alt., found in open Pine forests with sandy soil and low grass vegetation as well as in Dipterocarp forests with lateritic soil.


Vernacular : Pat nam (ปัดน้ำ)(Northeastern).
