Description : Tree ca 8 m high; branchlets terete with a few scattered hairs, glabrescent. Leaves: rachis 8–21 cm, gland(s) 2–5 cm above the base and often ca 2 cm below the junctions of the pinnae, up to ca 8 mm long and 3 mm high, urceolate to crater shaped, elliptic in outline; pinnae 1–2 pairs, up to 10–11 cm, gland between the junctions of the distal pair of petiolules, smaller but similar in form to the rachis glands; leaflets 3 pairs, petiolulate, opposite, thinly chartaceous, 6–24 by 3–9 cm, elliptic to obovate-elliptic; base asymmetrical, rounded to cuneate; apex shortly acuminate; both surfaces glabrous; lower surface with prominent veins, upper With prominulous lateral veins not forming a dense reticulation. Inflorescence: peduncles up to 4 cm, bearing a head of ca 25–30 sessile flowers. Calyx 3–4 mm, subtubular, faintly puberulous, especially along the margins of the inconspicuous teeth. Corolla 6.5–8 mm, narrowly campanulate, tube glabrous; lobes ca 3 mm, elliptic, acute, faintly puberulous. Staminal tube as long as the corolla-tube. Ovary 1.5–2 mm, glabrous; stipe 2.5–3 mm.


Thailand : SOUTH-WESTERN: Kanchanaburi (type: Kerr 10428, holotype -K, isotypes -ABD BM).


Distribution : Burma.


Ecology : Evergreen forests and transition from mixed deciduous forests into dry evergreen forests rich in bamboo, ca 700–950 m alt.


Vernacular : Cha-om ton (ชะอมต้น), pha niang (พะเนียง)(Southwestern).


Notes: This Species is not yet known with fully ripe pods. The unripe pod suggests an affinity to the Indo–Chinese species with cylindrical, straight pods.


Main
