Description : Shrub or small tree, to 10 m tall. Leaves thin-coriaceous, narrowly oblong to ovate-oblong, 7–15 by 4–6 cm; apex abruptly acute or obliquely caudate; base acute or obtuse; lateral veins 10–12 pairs, strongly impressed below; petiole 1.5–2 cm long, sericeous, pulvinate at the base. Flower-buds narrowly ellipsoid, 3–3.5 by 1.8–2 cm; spathaceous bracts thinly villous; peduncle 1–1.5 cm long. Tepals greenish-white; outer ones 3 by 1.5 cm; inner ones much narrower. Stamens linear, 1.2 cm long. Gynoecium narrowly ellipsoid: carpels 6–15, cylindric, glabrous or sometimes pubescent.


Thailand : PENINSULAR: Satun, Surat Thani (Ban Nasan), Pattani, Songkhla, Trang, Yala.


Distribution : Java (type), Bali to Malay Peninsula, Tenasserim, Cambodia.


Ecology : In tropical evergreen forests, at low altitudes (50–400 m). Often cultivated.


Vernacular : Montha (มณฑา)(Peninsular); yihup (ยึ่หุบ)(Northern, Central).
