Description : Small tree up to 15 m by 15–20 cm. Leaves obovate, or obovate- to elliptic-oblong, 4.5–10 by 2.5–6 cm; apex obtuse, rounded or ± emarginated; base cuneate; petiole 1–2.5 cm. Stipules 1.5–2.5 cm. Inflorescences usually in the leaf-axils of several nodes at the upper part of a branchlet, 3–5-flowered. Calyx 5–6 mm long. Petals slightly obovate-oblong, ca 2.5 mm long, fringed at the apex. Stamens ± equal, ca 1 mm long. Hypocotyl 9–15 cm long.
Thailand : SOUTH-EASTERN: Chon Buri (Si Racha), Chathaburi; PENINSULAR: Krabi, Phuket, Satun, Surat Thani, Chumphon.
Distribution : India (type), Burma, Cambodia, S Vietnam, Malesia.
Ecology : Mangrove forests.
Vernacular : Prong (โปรง), prong nu (โปรงหนู).
Uses: Wood for temporary construction. fire-wood, and charcoal. Bark yields best tannin.
