Description : Herb 20–45 cm tall (30–60 cm long). Leaf sheaths ca 5 bladeless, speckled with dark purple spots, glabrous or minutely pubescent, often with ciliate margins distally; ligule shallowly bilobed, 1–2 mm, ciliate; blades 8–10, elliptic, 10–25 by 3–5 cm, usually with stiff, spine-like hairs along secondary nerves above, pubescent below, base cuneate, apex acuminate; petiole almost lacking. Inflorescence lax, horizontal with pendent tip, linear, 15–30 cm long; peduncle 8–10 cm, without sterile bracts; rachis sometimes purple, glabrous; bracts caducous, elliptic, ca 1 by 0.4 cm, green; cincinni slender, 0.5–1 cm to first flower, with 1–3 orange-yellow flowers; bracteoles caducous, ovate, ca 2–3 by 1.5 mm, apex acute, glabrous. Flower 2.3–2.8 cm long: ovary globose, glabrous; calyx broadly funnel-shaped, 2.5–3 mm long, trilobed, lobes acute, yellow, glabrous, with acute lobes; floral tube 6–7 mm beyond calyx, dorsal corolla lobe elliptic, ca 6 by 3.5 mm, hooded, apex short mucronate or obtuse, yellow, lateral corolla lobes ovate, ca 5 by 3 mm, shallowly hooded, yellow; lateral staminodes elliptic, 7–8 by 2 mm, apex obtuse to nearly truncate, as long as corolla lobes, yellow; labellum oblong, ca 8 by 4 mm, narrow, lightly bilobed, yellow, red to dark purple spot; stamen: filament ca 1.5 cm beyond labellum yellow; anther 2–3 by 1–1.5 mm, connective tissue yellow, appendages 2, linear to triangular, ca 3 by 1 mm, yellow. Fruit globose, 4–6 mm. Bulbils many, fusiform, 0.8–2 by 0.5–0.8 cm, corky, produced at apices of cincinni and lower peduncle.
