Description : Herb 25–70 cm tall; rhizome creeping. Leaf sheaths 9–10, reddish, especially at base, lower ones glabrescent, upper ones pubescent with densely ciliate margin; ligule bilobed, lobes rounded, 1 mm long, densely glandular hairy; blades 4–7, narrowly elliptic, 7–13.5 by 1.5–2.3 cm, plain green, densely pubescent below, glabrous to sparsely pubescent above, base cuneate, apex long acuminate; petiole 0.5–1 cm, longer on upper leaves, pubescent. Inflorescence held roughly at right angles to stem, compact, 2–3 cm long; peduncle to 0.5 cm long beyond leaf sheaths, usually without sterile bracts; rachis 0.8–1 cm, green, pubescent; bracts persistent, ovate, acute, lowermost to 1.5 by 1 cm, red, minutely pubescent; cincinni enclosed in bracts, 2–3 mm to first flower, flowers 2–3 per cincinnus; pedicel ca 1 mm long; bracteoles persistent, ovate, to 1 by 0.7 cm, white at base, red at tips, minutely pubescent. Flower ca 3 cm long; ovary ovoid, ca 1 mm diam., minutely pubescent; calyx narrowly tubular, ca 4 mm long, minutely pubescent, lobes ca 1 mm long, acute; floral tube 1.2–1.3 cm beyond calyx, yellow, minutely pubescent, dorsal corolla lobe elliptic, 4–5 by ca 3 mm, strongly hooded, yellow, minutely pubescent, lateral corolla lobes elliptic, to 4 mm long, shallowly hooded, yellow; lateral staminodes oblong, 8–9 by 3–3.5 mm, apex often emarginate, considerably longer than corolla lobes, yellow, glabrous; labellum narrowly obtriangular, lobes sometimes slightly divergent, usually emarginate, ca 8 by 3.5 mm, not reaching ends of lateral corolla lobes, yellow with no spot; stamen: filament ca 2 cm beyond labellum, yellow, glabrous; anther ca 2 by 1 mm, appendages 4, triangular, lower pair smaller, ca 2 mm long, upper pair larger, ca 3 mm long, yellow. Fruit trisulcate, smooth, red or whitish red; seeds not seen. Bulbils absent.


Thailand : NORTH-EASTERN: Sakon Nakhon (Kusuman, Phu Phan NP – type: Newman 942, holotype -BKF, isotype -E).


Distribution : Endemic.


Vernacular : Daeng phuphan (แดงภูพาน).


Notes: The creeping rhizome of this species distinguishes it from others in section Globba, although it is often found in section Sempervirens. The globose inflorescence and red bracts are the diagnostic characters of Globba conferta.
