Description : Tree 2–8 m tall, with spiral primary branching; bark grey. Leafy branches brown-pubescent, lenticels inconspicuous. Leaves chartaceous, symmetrically oblanceolate, 9‒15 by 2.5‒5 cm, base asymmetrically cordate, apex acute to acuminate, acumen 1‒18 mm long, glabrous above, glabrescent below, midrib slightly sunken above, secondary veins festooned-brochidodromous, curving, 10‒14 per side, tertiary venation reticulate; petioles 2‒3 mm long, pubescent. Inflorescences densely fascicled on woody tubercles of leafless twigs and trunk, fascicles up to at least 10-flowered, peduncle rudimentary, rachis absent, pedicels 3‒5(‒7) mm long, 0.8‒1 mm thick, sparsely pubescent, bract attached at pedicel base, narrowly acute, 3‒5 by ca 1 mm; buds lanceolate. Sepals connate at base and erect or slightly spreading at apex, chartaceous, narrowly lanceolate, 6‒12(‒15) by 2‒3.5 mm, acute, tomentose outside. Petals erect or slightly spreading, pink or pale red to dark red, chartaceous, linear with broad base, outer petals slightly larger than inner petals, 50‒100 by 2‒4.5 mm, apex acute. Stamens cuneate, 1‒1.2 by 0.8‒1 mm, anther connective apex truncate. Carpels 4‒8, 1.6‒1.8 mm long, ovaries ellipsoid, 1.2‒1.4 by 0.3‒0.4 mm, pubescent, stigmas subglobose, 0.4‒0.6 mm in diam., sparsely puberulous, higher than anther connective apices; ovules 4‒5, lateral. Receptacle cushion-shaped, 2.5‒3 mm in diam., ca 0.5 mm thick, glabrous. Fruit of 2‒5 monocarps borne on a pedicel 2‒6 mm long, 2–4 mm thick. Monocarps red to dark red, oblongoid to subglobose, sometime slightly torulose, 2‒3 by 1.5‒2.5 cm, pubescent, apex obtuse, stipe 2‒5 mm long, 1.8–2 mm thick. Seeds 1‒5 per monocarp, subdiscoid, 12‒15 mm in diam., 6‒8 mm thick, slightly wrinkled, brown, encircled by a wide deep groove.

Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore (type, probably), Borneo.
Ecology : Tropical rain forests, 300‒750 m alt. Flowering: February‒April; fruiting: April‒July.
Vernacular : Nuat pla duk (หนวดปลาดุก)(Yala).
Notes: The marked features of Polyalthia stenopetala are the sessile or subsessile flowers, the densely fascicled inflorescences borne on woody tubercles on the trunk and twigs, and the linear petals 50‒100 by 2‒4.5 mm.
