Description : Woody climber to 6 m high. Twigs densely pubescent, covered with appressed and spreading reddish brown to dark brown hairs. Leaves chartaceous to subcoriaceous, drying dull gray above, often brown, glaucous below, oblong, lanceolate-oblong or rarely elliptic, 7–25 by 3–8.5 cm, base rounded to subcordate, apex acute to acuminate, the acumen (2–)4–15 mm long, glabrate except for the sparsely pubescent midrib above, densely spreading-pubescent below, secondary veins (9–)14–16 per side; petioles 3–11 mm long, flattened to slightly sunken above, densely short brown-pubescent. Inflorescences internodal, leaf-opposed or terminal, 1-flowered, pedicels 5–10 mm long, densely short-pubescent, with a lanceolate bract 2–5 mm long attached at or just below midpoint. Sepals valvate to imbricate, subcoriaceous, ovate, (5–)6.5–14 by (6–)8–12 mm long, apex acute, 5-veined, pubescent on both sides. Petals greenish yellow to yellow, fleshy; outer petals spreading narrowly in bud, spreading at anthesis, lanceolate, broadly lanceolate or elliptic-lanceolate, 40–100 by 13–35 mm, flat toward apex, obtuse, flat on inner base, twisted, densely pubescent; inner petals ovate-triangular, 7–15 by 4.5–8 mm, acute, margins without protrusions at midpoint, pubescent on both sides. Stamens clavate, 2.5–3 mm long, anther connective apex convex. Carpels 16–18, oblong, 2.5–3 mm long, stigmas globose. Fruit of (1–)7–13 monocarps borne on a pedicel 6–12 mm long with bract and sepals persistent. Monocarps red, oblongoid, ellipsoid-oblongoid or rarely broadly ellipsoid, (1.2–)1.5–2.1 by (0.8–)1–1.2 cm, moderately spreading-pubescent, apex rounded, sometimes with an apiculum ca 0.3 mm long, stipe (5–)7–10 by 2–3 mm. Seeds oblongoid or ellipsoid-oblongoid, 12–17 by 7–9 mm.


Thailand : PENINSULAR: Narathiwat (Khao Chana, Cha Nae, Ra Ngae).


Distribution : Peninsular Malaysia (type).


Ecology : Primary evergreen forests, along streams or in shaded areas, 50–200 m alt. Flowering: May; fruiting: August, December.


Vernacular : Bu nga klip yai (บุหงากลีบใหญ่); la ro (ลาเราะ)(Narathiwat).


Notes: Galls are sometimes present on the lower leaf surface along the midrib and secondary veins, which have not been seen in other Friesodielsia species. Friesodielsia kingii has the largest seeds of any Thai Friesodielsia species.
