Description : Erect or suffrutescent herbs 20–50 cm tall; stems unbranched or branched, glabrous to loosely or densely hairy throughout with straight or curved, white hairs 0.1–0.3 mm long. Stipules setaceous to narrowly subulate or deltoid, 2–7 mm long, or minute, membranaceous, often fimbriate at apex, glabrous, caducous. Leaves equal or unequal, elliptic or broadly lanceolate, 6.5–20 by 2–7 cm, base cuneate, apex acuminate, margin hairy or glabrous, glabrous or scatteredly hairy with straight, white hairs 0.1–0.2 mm long above, dry olive-green or pale green, loosely to densely hairy along veins with straight or curved, white hairs 0.1 mm long beneath, lateral veins 7–12 pairs, veins beneath paler, same colour, or darker than blade; petiole 0.5–2 cm long. Inflorescences terminal cymes with usually developed central axis and helicoid branches, elongate during anthesis, at anthesis upright; flowers 30–55 per inflorescence; peduncle at anthesis to 2 cm long, in fruit to 4.5 cm long, densely hairy throughout with straight, white hairs ca 0.1 mm long; inflorescence branches to 1–5 cm long, densely hairy throughout with hairs ca 0.1 mm long, with secondary branchlets; bracts and bracteoles much shorter than ovaries, inconspicuous, minute, 0.7–2 mm long, appressed to branches, glabrous; flower bud apex round or angular, slightly ribbed; pedicels equal or longer than ovaries, 0.5–2.5 mm long. Flowers heterostylous. Calyx lobes deltoid, length (sub)equal to width or lanceolate, longer than wide, 0.7–0.8 mm long. Corolla cylindric to narrow infundibular, pink to purple, outside hairy on tube with hairs ca 0.05 mm long; lobes spreading to reflexed, shorter than tube, 1.5–2 mm long, inside glabrous or scaly. Ovary pubescent as pedicel to minutely scaly. Longistylous flowers: corolla tube ca 6–7.5 mm long, not inflated at base, inside glabrous or hairy with scattered hairs or scales only, ring of hairs absent; stamens attached at above tube base or at tube middle; filament 1–1.5 mm long (free part); anthers included at or below tube middle, 2.5–3 mm long; style included above anthers, ca 6 mm long; stigma 1.2–1.5 mm long lobes elliptic. Brevistylous flowers: corolla tube 6–9 mm long, not or slightly inflated at base, inside hairy, without ring of hairs or with loose ring of upwards appressed hairs and scattered hairs or scales above hair ring; stamens attached at tube middle, below or inside hair ring; filament ca 3.5 mm long (free part); anthers included above tube middle or half exserted, 2.5–3 mm long; style included below anthers, 2–4.3 mm long; stigma with lanceolate lobes, 1.2–3 mm long. Capsules laterally flattened, 2.5–3 by 6.5–7.5 mm.

Distribution : Bhutan, India (type), Myanmar, China, Malay Peninsula.
Ecology : In evergreen forests, on moist soil and rock in shade, along trails and streams, 200–1,000 m alt.
Vernacular : Chaem chuen (แช่มชื่น).
