Description : Erect herbs 25–35 cm tall; stems unbranched, loosely or densely to tomentose hairy on 1 or 2 opposite sides or throughout, hairs multicellular, flexuose, white or rusty, 0.3–0.6 mm long. Stipules narrow triangular or setaceous to narrowly subulate, or narrow membranaceous, 2–9 by 0.5–1.5 mm, often fimbriate at apex, somewhat hairy, caduceus. Leaves equal or unequal, ovate to elliptic to lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, 6.5–16 by 2.8–6.4 cm, base cuneate or broadly cuneate, apex acuminate, margin hairy, scatteredly hairy with multicellular, straight or curved, appressed, white hairs, 0.4–1.2 mm long above, dry dark or olive-green or pale green, scatteredly or dense hairy throughout surface with multicellular, curved, white hairs 0.2–0.3 mm long beneath, lateral veins 10–12 pairs, veins beneath paler than blade or same colour or darker than blade; petiole 0.4–2.5 cm long. Inflorescences terminal helicoid cymes with underdeveloped central axis, very compact in flower and in fruit, at anthesis upright, flowers 18–44 per inflorescence; peduncle at anthesis 10–39 mm long, in fruit 2–4 cm long, loosely to densely hairy throughout, or on 1 or 2 opposite sides with villous, white or rusty hairs 0.35–0.5 mm long; inflorescence branches with secondary branchlets, to 1.2 cm long, densely hairy throughout or on 1 or 2 opposite sides, hairs same as on peduncle, 0.3–0.4 mm long; bracts & bracteoles equal or longer than ovaries, linear to narrow lanceolate or narrow triangular, 0.4–1.2 cm long, hairy on surface and margins; flower bud 8–12.5 mm long, lobes upright, shorter than tube, 1.5–2 mm long, apex rounded or angular, slightly ribbed. Flowers heterostylous; pedicels shorter than ovaries, 0.7–1.5 mm long. Calyx lobes lanceolate, longer than wide, 0.9 mm long. Corolla white, cylindric to narrow infundibular, not inflated at base, outside hairy on both tube and lobes with hairs 0.1–0.35 mm long; lobes inside scaly. Ovary dense hispidly hairy. Longistylous flowers: corolla tube 0.8–1.1 cm long, inside hairy with dense ring of upwards appressed hairs 0.3–0.6 mm long; stamens attached above tube base, well below hair ring; filament 0.3–0.4 mm long; anthers included below or at tube middle, below hair ring, 1.7–2.5 mm long; style included above anthers, hairy at least in upper part, 5.5–9 mm long; stigma 1–1.6 mm long, lobes roundish, or elliptic. Brevistylous flowers: corolla tube 0.7–1.3 cm long, inside hairy with loose ring of hairs perpendicular to walls or upwards appressed, 0.2–0.3 mm long; stamens attached above tube base or at tube middle, at hair ring lower edge or inside hair ring; filament 2.6–3.7 mm long; anthers included above tube middle or half exserted, 1.7–2.5 mm long; style included below anthers, glabrous, 2–4.8 mm long; stigma 1.5–2.3 mm long, lobes lanceolate. Capsules cordate, 2.3–2.5 by 5.5–6 mm, upper margin concave or straight, densely clustered, overlapping; laterally flattened.
Thailand : NORTHERN: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan (type: Maxwell 98-805, holotype -BKF, isotype -CMUB), Lampang.
Distribution : China, Vietnam.
Ecology : Shady places along streams and waterfalls in primary evergreen forests, often on granite bedrock, 500–2,000 m alt.
