Description : Climbers; young stems quadrangular, sparsely hirsute to glabrescent. Stipules persistent or caducous, ovate, 0.6–1 by 0.8–1 cm, bifid, lobes narrowly triangular, acute to acuminate. Leaves ovate, lanceolate or lanceolate-oblong, 7–11 by 3.5–8 cm, base rounded, truncate, or subcordate, apex acute to acuminate, membranous to charteceous, drying papery, shiny and glabrous except sparsely hairy along veins above, densely brown hairy beneath, except sparsely hairy along veins, or glabrous, lateral veins 6–9 pairs, usually with domatia in axils of lateral and veinlets; petiole 0.4–1 cm long, sparsely hairs to glabrous. Inflorescences axillary and frequently also terminal, densely brown hairy or glabrescent; peduncle 2.5–4.5 cm long. Flowering heads solitary or 2, across calyces 1.8–2 cm diam., across corollas 3–3.7 cm diam. Flowers sessile or subsessile. Calyx tube ca 2 by 1 mm, densely brown hairy; lobes filiform, ca 2 by 0.5 mm, with a long acicular point at apex or clavate-subulate with rounded apex. Corolla tube 0.9–1.2 by ca 0.02 cm, outside glabrous or glabrescent, sometimes with few scattered hairs; lobes oblong, orbicular or spathulate, ca 2.5 by 1.5 mm, apex rounded or obtuse, sparsely pubescent to glabrescent. Fruiting heads 3–4 cm diam.; pedicels 5–9 mm long. Capsule pedicellate, fusiform, 0.9–2.7 by 0.1–0.3 mm, pale brown hairy. Seeds 2.5–3 mm diam.; wings ca 2.5 mm long.


Distribution : Myanmar, throughout Malesia (type from Penang, Malay Peninsula), Taiwan, Micronesia, Australia, Solomon Islands.
