Description : Climbers to ca 25 m long; branches quadrangular, young branches ferruginous pubescent. Stipules oblong, 6–8 by ca 6 mm, bifid, pubescent. Leaves elliptic, ovate or rotund, 11–18 by 7.5–11.5 cm, base obtuse to subcordate, apex obtuse to rounded or very shortly acuminate, thin to thick coriaceous, sometimes thinly chartaceous, matte or shining above, pubescent or only on veins or glabrous, not glaucous beneath, lateral veins 7–9 pairs, veinlets finely scalariform, conspicuous above; petiole stout, ca 1.5 cm long. Inflorescences solitary, terminal or axillary; peduncle 1.5–4 cm. long, articulated 1–1.3 cm below apex, thickened at base, densely ferrugineous pubescent. Flowering heads across calyces 3–8 cm diam., across corollas 4–10 cm diam. Flowers with pedicel 6–8 mm. long, densely pubescent; hypanthium 2–3 mm long, densely golden brown hairy. Calyx tube ellipsoid, 4–7 by 3–6 mm, densely short hairy inside; lobes lanceolate, ca 2 by 1–3 mm, apex acute, brown hairy on both sides. Corolla tube narrowly cylindric, 1.8–2.3 by 0.1 cm, silky or densely villous outside; lobes narrowly oblong or lingulate, 2.5–3 by 1–2 mm, apex obtuse or rounded, golden or red-brown hairs outside, subglabrous inside. Fruiting heads to 11 cm in diam.; receptacle 2.2–3 by 7–9 cm. Capsules narrowly cylindric, 1.5–1.8 by ca 0.4 cm long, golden brown pubescent, longitudinally ribbed. Seeds ca 0.5 mm diam.; wings ca 3 mm long, lower pairs filamentous.
